چکیده

In order to transition from today’s 3rd generation (3G) communications systems to meet the needs of 4th generation (4G) systems, the 3rd Generation Partnership Partnership (3GPP) has released the Long Term Evolution (LTE) specification. Among the numerous differences between these generations are changes in the physical layer (PHY), specifically in the modulation and multiple access schemes. While its parent generation relied on variations of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), LTE implements Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) for its downlink and Single-Carrier Frequency-Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) for its uplink. The purpose of this project is to investigate the reasoning for this discord between uplink and downlink modulation schemes. The project shall consist of two parts: a literature survey to compare them using relevant works, and a set of simulations to compare them numerically.

Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction Techniques for Long Term Evolution- Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access System

As the power consumption is an essential issue for designers of mobile devices The 3 Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) – Long Term Evolution (LTE) employs a multicarrier communication technique on the air interface, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SCFDMA), in uplink scenario and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) in the downlink. SCFDMA core modulation ...

Analyzing the effect of Modulation order and FFT size on PAPR performance of SC-FDMA and OFDMA system

AbstractPeak to Average power ratio is the problem being faced in multicarrier system, for Long term evolution(LTE) research is being done for a kind of system that is having lesser PAPR. Single carrier Frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) and Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) are major part of LTE. OFDMA was well utilized for achieving high spectral efficiency in co...

SC-FDMA based Systems to Reduce PAPR by using a Modified Commanding Scheme

The 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) standard uses single carrier frequency division multiple access (SCFDMA), scheme for the uplink transmissions and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access (OFDMA) in downlink. SCFDMA makes use of single carrier modulation and frequency domain equalization, it is a technique that has similar performance and essentia...

Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction in Single Carrier OFDMA Systems

Abstract: Single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) which utilizes single carrier modulation at the transmitter and frequency domain equalization at the receiver is a technique that has similar performance and essentially the same overall structure as those of an OFDMA system. One prominent advantage over OFDMA is that the SC-FDMA signal has lower peak-to-average power ratio (...
